Use of hate speech and social evaluation of a politician’s image

We investigated whether the use of hate speech by politicians impacts social evaluation their image, as measured semantic differential method developed Cwalina et al. (2000). The participants (N = 105, Polish nationals) evaluated profiles three well-known from different parties – Krzysztof Bosak, Radosław Sikorski, and Włodzimierz Czarzasty a fictional politician named Jacek Wiśniewski. Participants made evaluations before after reading hateful posts each politician. participants’ political views alignment with electoral programs being evaluated, well demographic variables such gender age were also measured. results showed that adversely affected politician’s participants. In particular, negative concerned politicians’ competences (unqualified provincial), emotionality (excitable aggressive), attitude towards other people (insincere unfriendly).
